This happens when acid eats away the thinning mucus that protects your digestive tract. If not treated, this might lead to internal bleeding, infection, and obstruction.

How is this treated?

Accordingly, the treatment depends on what caused it. If this is caused a Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacterial infection, antibiotics and medication called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) is recommended to treat this.

If caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), you might need course of Proton pump inhibitors (PPI)medication. To avoid acid reflux, limit consuming the following:

  • coffee and other caffeinated beverages
  • carbonated beverages
  • chocolate
  • chilies and hot peppers
  • processed foods
  • foods with a high amount of salt
  • deep-fried foods
  • acidic foods like citrus and tomatoes
