LUNGS HEALTH TIPS – Here are some of the best breathing exercises you need to know in order to strengthen and keep lungs healthy.

It’s been several months that have passed and the country is still under a community quarantine. While some of us use this time to turn to a healthier lifestyle, there are those who tend to resort to unhealthy foods, irregular sleep schedules, and having a sedentary lifestyle which is more than they usually have before.

But as much as everyone is aware of, this is the time that we must take care of our health the most. And since the COVID-19 mostly affects the lungs and our respiratory system, along with healthy diet and physical exercise, there are also breathing exercises to help us get through.

See some breathing exercises to keep your lungs healthy below:

  • Pursed lip breathing – Do this for 4 to 5 times a day by relaxing neck and shoulder, inhale slowly through the nose in 2 counts, pucker or purse the lips, and slowly exhale for 4 counts.
  • Diaphragmatic breathing – Practice this for 5 to 10 minutes, 3 to 4 times per day. This is how you do this:
    • Lie on back, bend knees, and put a pillow on your head and under your knees for support.
    • To feel movement of diaphragm, place a hand to your chest and the other below your rib cage.
    • Slowly inhale through the nose and exhale in pursed lips.
    • Keep your hands still
  • Lion’s breath – This is a yoga breathing practice and this is how it is done:
    • In your comfortable seating position either sitting on heels or cross your legs, press your palms on your knees with your fingers spread wide.
    • Deeply inhale through the nose with your eyes wide open and mouth wide open as well, and tongue’s out towards the chin.
    • Exhale through the mouth by making long “ha” sound.
    • Do this twice or thrice.
  • Equal breathing – This is done to make your inhales and exhales to be of the same length and this how you do it:
    • Place yourself in a comfortable seating position.
    • Breathe in and out through the nose and count during such to be sure that its done in even duration or you can use a word or short phrase to say during your inhale and exhale.
    • And you can add a slight pause in between each inhale and exhale.
