HORMONAL IMBALANCE – Too much or too little hormones create an imbalance and these are the possible effects of this condition on your body.

Hormones are the chemical messengers of the body. They function as messengers of the body on what to do and when to do it. A human has more than 50 hormones. Some of these are the following:

  1. Aldosterone and Corticosteroids are produced by the adrenal glands
  2. Antidiuretic, Adrenocorticotropic, Oxytocin, Prolactin, and Thyroid-stimulating hormones are produced by the pituitary glands
  3. Renin, Angiotensin, and Erythropoietin are produced by the kidneys
  4. Glucagon and Insulin are produced by the pancreas
  5. Estrogen and Progesterone are produced by the ovaries
  6. Epinephrine and Norepinephrine are produced by the adrenal glands

These hormones play vital roles in the body’s homeostasis, reproduction, growth and development, and response to stress, injury, and external factors.

The term was coined after the Greek word hormao meaning “I excite”. In a previous post, hormonal imbalance is defined as having too much or too little of one or two hormones and such cases lead to an imbalance.
