HIMALAYAN SALT – Does pink Himalayan salt have any health benefits? Is it true that it’s better compared to other types of salt?

The Himalayan salt is naturally pink and it is said that it is one of the purest salts available and has several benefits to health. This type of salt is mined in Pakistan near the Himalayan Mountains. It is mined just like rock salt.

And just like the table salt we have, it is made up of 98 percent sodium chloride. The rest are minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium.

Pretty much like the table salt we know, we use this for cooking, seasoning, and preserving food. It contains no calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, and sugar.

  • It can help detoxify the body due to its mineral content.
  • It naturally contains iodine, something that is artificially added to table salt.
  • It can help to hydrate us which makes this a great addition to our post-workout drink.
  • Its mineral content can help balance the body’s pH level.

Meanwhile, too much consumption of this salt has risks. The 2015 to 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that people should not take more than 2,300 milligrams (mg) of sodium daily.

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt: 1,150 mg sodium
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt: 1,725 mg sodium
