Since this particular part of the body seems that master of our movement and thinking, we should definitely take care of it. And by properly taking care of it, one factor depends on our food choices. Unfortunately, some foods has have negative effects on the brain affecting the memory, mood, and risk of dementia.

Below are the foods that are considered to be worst for the brain:

  • Foods High in Trans Fats such as margarine and frosting. Aside from not being good for the brain, it is also not good for the heart and blood vessels. Accordingly, trans fats are associated with impaired memory and the risk of Alzheimer’s.
  • Alcoholic drinks may not mess up your brain in a minimum amount but too much of this, the more it will be difficult for a person to process new information or remember things. Also, excessive consumption can lead to memory loss, behavioral changes, and sleep disruption. 
  • Soda, sports drinks, energy drinks, and fruit juices are packed with sugar which negatively affects the brain. Not only that, but it also increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. As much as we are aware, type 2 diabetes also boosts Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Fried foods, in all sense, is bad for our health, including processed foods. According to WebMd, these foods cause inflammation which damages the blood vessels responsible for supplying blood for the brain.
  • Refined carbs found in foods like white bread and white rice increase your risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The best options for these are the ones that are whole-grain bread, brown rice, and whole-wheat pasta.
  • Foods high in saturated fat such as red meat is bad both for the heart and brain. In terms of protein sources, there are a lot of foods out there, that’s non-meat but with quality proteins.
