Gallbladder Function – What You Need To Know About Its Purpose

Here are some of the things to know about gallbladder function and its purpose.

GALLBLADDER FUNCTION – This is the function and real purpose of your gallbladder and some tips on how to keep it healthy.

The small, pear-shaped organ that is located in the upper right part of your abdomen (belly) and just under your liver is your gallbladder. It stores and releases bile, the thick fluid that your liver releases, which helps your body digest the fats coming from the foods you eat.

This organ belongs to your digestive system and basically, storing bile is its main function. What make up the bile are cholesterol, bilirubin, and bile salts. A series of bile ducts make it connected to other organs of the body. It is called the biliary tract, a system that enables the carriage of bile from the liver to the small intestine.

Among the common symptoms of having an issue in your gallbladder include pain. The pain can come suddenly, intensify quickly, at the upper right area of the abdomen, happens after a meal (mostly after dinner), and it could last for minutes or even for hours.

Gallstones, cholecystitis, acalculous gallbladder disease (gallbladder disease without stones), choledocholithiasis, and gallbladder polyps are some common gallbladder problems you might encounter.

Now, here are some of the things you can do to make it happy:

  • not skipping meals
  • eating whole grains
