One of the health conditions that is challenging to manage is diabetes. It is characterized by too high glucose level or blood sugar level.

High glucose level is the result of the body’s failure to make enough insulin, the hormone that helps the glucose get to the body’s cells for energy. People who have diabetes are clinically called “diabetic”.

Diabetic individuals must be aware of their sugar in-take. In fact, everyone must be most especially those who are in the borderline of diabetes. This condition, although manageable, really needs a change in the lifestyle.

People who have diabetes must avoid food with very high sugar content – it is twice challenging for those who have sweet tooth. The rice intake must also be managed well as carbohydrates have to be regulated.

Fruits are among the healthiest food that a person can eat but the fruits for people with diabetes are limited. There are limits both to the kind and the amount.

Based on an article in Mayo Clinic, a recommended in-take of fruits for people with diabetes is 15 grams of carbohydrates. Here is a list of what you may add to your diet:

  • 1/2 medium apple
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 cup honeydew melon
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 cup cubed cantaloupe
  • 17 small grapes
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 1/4 cup strawberries

Based on the article, if you prefer canned or frozen fruits with no sugar added, you may have 1/2 cup of it. With regards to dried fruits like cherries or raisins, the recommended amount are up to two (2) teaspoons of the dried fruit.
