The waxy substance which is found in the blood is called cholesterol. It is the liver that makes most of it in the body and the rest comes from foods we eat. This is also needed to build healthy cells, make hormones, vitamin D, and digestive fluids and for proper functioning of our organs. But having high level may put you at high risk of heart disease. It can be inherited but often time, this is the result of unhealthy lifestyle choices.

This condition has no symptoms but the only way to determine this is through blood test. Poor diet, obesity, lack of exercise, smoking, aging, and diabetes are the factor that might increase risk of bad cholesterol. Its complications include chest pain, heart attack, and stroke.

Here are some tips from Doc Willie Ong:

  • Blood test. Don’t be afraid to do this test and learn to have a healthy diet and exercise.
  • Eat right. Through this, you will be able to lower down your cholesterol level to avoid expensive medications and its possible side effects.
  • Exercise. Make it a point to exercise at least three to five times in a week within 30 minutes to one hour.
  • Natural medication. Garlic reduces cholesterol from 9% to 12% and omega-3 fish oil supplements to reduce triglyceride levels.
  • Proper medication. If after two months and still you’re cholesterol level did not lower down despite your effort, it’s time to start taking your medication from your doctor.
