What to eat if you have bowel movement difficulty and constipation?

BOWEL MOVEMENT DIFFICULTY – Doctor Willie Ong imparts foods that we must eat if we are suffering bowel movement difficulty and constipation.

Constipation affects all people of all ages which is a common condition. Among the causes are not eating enough fibre, change in your routine or lifestyle including eating habits, ignoring the urge to pass stools, side effects of certain medications, not drinking enough water, and even anxiety or depression.

How to prevent it and have a smooth and regular bowel patterns? Take enough fiber, fluids, regular toilet habits, and exercise. Complications include rectal bleeding and faecal impaction.

Here are the symptoms:

  • loss of appetite
  • a lack of energy
  • being irritable, angry or unhappy
  • foul-smelling wind and stools
  • stomach pain and discomfort
  • soiling their clothes
  • generally feeling unwell
  • stomach ache and cramps 
  • feeling bloated
  • feeling sick

Here are the foods that we must eat and do to aid this kind of condition:

  • High-fiber vegetables such as water spinach (kangkong), luffa (patola), okra, and malunggay. For better bowel movement, eat two to three cups of vegetables everyday. Other high in fiber foods are wholegrain rice, wholewheat pasta, whole meal bread, and seeds and oats.
  • Fruits including papaya, watermelon, and pears for these are high in fiber.
  • Drink at least eight (8) to ten (10) glasses of water everyday. This is to soften the stools.
  • Do some exercises everyday including walking or jogging.
  • Laugh hard and always find reason to laugh.
  • Schedule your body to defecate everyday in the same hour
