Bacterial Skin Rash – Types Causes, and Treatment

These are the types and causes of bacterial skin rash and how to treat this.

BACTERIAL SKIN RASH – Here are the kinds of infections that cause bacterial skin rash and the proper treatment for this.

The severity of a bacterial skin infection may range from mild to life-threatening. There are two groups of common bacteria that cause this: Group A Streptococcus (GAS), often called “strep” and Staphylococcus aureus, commonly called “staph” according to a post from DOH New York.

GAS or strep are bacteria found on the skin or in the throat while staph bacteria are the most common cause of skin infections as per the post.

Skin infection can occur in a baby, toddler, adolescent, or adult, and despite the age, the treatment will depend on the location of the infection. These infections can happen in the face, genitals, scalp, or hands.

Here are the common causes of skin infection:

  1. Cellulitis
Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes cause this condition and its symptoms include high fever, chills, rapid heart rate, vomiting, and other symptoms of septicemia.
  2. Erysipelas
Streptococcus aureus is the culprit and the infected person may suffer from symptoms like extreme redness and swelling.
  3. Bacterial Folliculitis
This is the infection in the hair follicles. The symptoms are the appearance of tiny, red bumps and/or white-headed pimples.
  4. Hot Tub Folliculitis
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the type of bacteria causing this. An infected person will have pus-filled bumps and an itchy, red rash.
  5. Furuncles
This is also known as a boil. If this is left untreated, this will result in an abscess and this typically appears on the face, neck, armpits, buttocks, and thighs.
  6. Carbuncle
Carbuncle is a cluster of furuncles or boil. This condition is deeper and more severe caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
  7. Impetigo
This infection is contagious. Commonly, children suffer from this infection caused by both Streptococcus aureus and Staphylococcus pyogenes.
  8. Erythrasma
Corynebacterium minutissimum is the bacteria causing this and is caused by the rubbing of skin surfaces which means it can appear in areas like armpits, groin, or between the toes. Poor hygiene, obesity, diabetes, and older age are some of its risk factors.
