Eating of contaminated, spoiled, or toxic food leads to food poisoning which is caused by bacteria, parasites, and viruses. Among the common symptoms include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, mild fever, weakness, nausea, and headaches.

Meanwhile, according to Health Line there are other life-threatening symptoms brought about by food poisoning and they are as follows:

  • diarrhea for more than three days
  • fever higher than 101.5°F
  • finding it difficult to speak or see
  • bloody urine; and among others

Now, in order to avoid this kind of alarming situation to happen, here’s what you need to know according to Doc Willie Ong:

  • Always look for the expiration date or the “Best Before” date.
  • Do not eat raw foods and make sure to cook your food well.
  • Try the food by smelling it or tasting a little of it. If it has a foul smell or tastes different, don’t eat it.
  • Always eat and opt for warm or hot foods to eat.
  • Avoid eating foods with sauce or with milk and gata because it gets spoiled easily.
  • Limit intake of foods like milk, cheese whiz, cheese pimiento, anything with mayonnaise, and buko salad.
  • Avoid drinking water directly from the faucet. Choose the bottled, purified, or boiled ones to ensure cleanliness.
  • Be careful in eating street foods.
  • It is always safe to eat home-cooked foods in your house and make sure to wash your hands properly before and after eating.
