Among the many benefits of eating eggs include:

  • having lots of nutrients such as Vitamins A, B5, B12, B2, folate, selenium, and phosphorus
  • good cholesterol
  • lowers the risk of heart diseases
  • boosts eye health
  • aids healthy weight loss

However, eating too much of anything, including eggs, can have side effects that are dangerous and seriously alarming.

In a previous post, in terms of egg consumption, the safest number of pieces to eat is three for healthy individuals. However, the American Heart Association highly suggests consuming a serving per day

Here are some of the side effects of consuming too much of this superfood:

  1. The cholesterol level in the egg yolk remains pretty debatable. There are about 200 milligrams found in an average-size egg and you can only imagine how much cholesterol you’ll get if you get beyond three. Too much cholesterol may likely lead to heart disease. A 2019 study showed that over 300 milligrams of cholesterol per day can cause a 17% higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and an 18% higher risk of death.
  2. Instead of pairing greasy sausage, hashbrowns, sugary pancakes, or cream-enriched coffee with your eggs, you might want to match it with healthier options instead like fresh spinach, diced bell peppers, or sliced grape tomatoes to avoid weight gain.
  3. A 2009 study in the journal Diabetes Care can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes if a person eats more than seven eggs per week.
  4. It can be a vehicle for eating unhealthy food because what matters is what you cook your eggs with or serve them with. Cooking it in butter and serving it with processed meats like bacon or ham makes the eggs unhealthy.
